SIMBA are in the final stages to land Ugandan international Steven Mukwala who bade farewell to Ghanaian Premier League giants Asante Kotoko on Monday after spending two years with the Kumasi-based team.

Mukwala signed a two-year deal with Kotoko after joining the Porcupine Warriors from Ugandan side Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club in 2021/2022.

The 25-year-old striker is on the verge of joining Simba’s attacking line after impressing with the Kumasi-based side.

According to reports, he will be joining Simba as a free agent on a three-year contract.

Simba target re-organisation as they seek to overtake Young Africans that have dominated the Tanzania League for the past three seasons.

Mukwala had been a hit in the West African nation scoring over 25 goals in 65 league appearances and was the club’s top scorer in the Ghana Premier League during his two-year stint.

According to Transfermarkt, the striker scored 14 goals in 28 in the league games in the 2023-2024 season as Kotoko finished sixth in the 18-team league standings.

In his debut season, Mukwala scored 11 goals and added five assists in 31 league games.

He starred in Super Clash against big rivals Accra Hearts of Oak SC by scoring in both games including a brace in the second leg at the Baba Yara Stadium.

In a video shared on his social platform, Mukwala, who started Uganda Cranes’ two World Cup qualifiers early this month, thanked everyone associated with the club including the King.

Mukwala also expressed gratitude to the life patron of the club, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and former club Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah.

“Hello Warriors, this is the saddest day of my career as I say goodbye to the home that has given me a platform to grow my football career. I am glad to have been part of a profound family. I hold you dearly in my heart.

“I want to thank His Majesty the King, and in a special way, I want to thank Nana Yaw Amponsah for supporting me and signing me to play in one of the biggest clubs in Africa,” he said.

Asante Kotoko confirmed the striker’s departure and wished him well in his next adventure.

"Steven Mukwala leaves Asante Kotoko upon expiration of his contract after spending two years with us. The club is grateful for the moments shared together and wishes him the best for the future,” Kotoko wrote in a statement

Mukwala came through the ranks at Edgars Soccer Academy and featured for Vipers SC and URA before moving to Ghana in 2022.
