THE final day of the 2023-24 NBC Premier League season this afternoon will be a straight shootout between Feisal Salum and Stephane Aziz Ki for the top scorer award.

The top scorer race is a dead heat.

Young Africans' Aziz Ki has scored 18 goals in 26 league appearances, and Azam's Feisal has amassed the same number of tallies in 26 appearances.

Aziz Ki and Young Africans lock horns with Tanzania Prisons at Chamazi Complex hoping to get the goals that will push him ahead of his former teammate.

Feisal travels to relegation-battlers Geita Gold on the final day aiming to find the goals to nudge ahead of Aziz Ki whilst securing CAF Champions League football for the Chamazi-based side.

Given both their current form, it will not be farfetched to expect them to also be on the score sheet in the afternoon.

Until this season, the top scorer award could be shared between multiple top scorers.

In the 2016/2017 campaign, Simon Msuva and Abulrahman Mussa finished as joint top scorers with 13 goals each.

A year ago, Fiston Mayele and Said Ntibazonkiza couldn't be separated at the top of the Golden Boot race.

Each finished with 17 goals and shared the top scorer award.

Starting from this season, a tie-breaker system was introduced by the Tanzania Premier League Board, TPLB, to pick out a definitive winner.

According to the tie-breaker system, if two or more players finish with the same number of goals, three criteria will be used to ensure just one name is attached to the season's award.

If two or more players are tied on the same number of goals, the player with the lowest number of penalties will be deemed the winner.

In the event that two or more players have scored the same number of goals and have the same number of penalties, the player who has played the lowest amount of minutes will win.

In the event that there is a tie on the above criteria, the player with the highest number of away goals wins the award.
