Sweetbert Nkuba, among the six candidates for the presidency of the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), has said that one of his policies is strengthening the legal and technological infrastructure within TLS to facilitate better services for members and society in general.

He said that will include increasing investment in digital systems to facilitate access to information and legal services and improving TLS offices in various regions with modern equipment and better infrastructure.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, Nkuba stressed regular training for TLS members to ensure that lawyers have up-to-date skills and the ability to compete internationally adding that this will include establishing regular training programs on new laws and changes in laws and collaborating with international institutions for training and exchange of experience.

Nkuba said his policy is to ensure that TLS has a strong voice in national and international issues related to law and justice and that it will include establishing lobbying strategies for the government and parliament to improve the legal system in the country and provide legal support to communities, especially groups with special needs.

He said he would aim to manage transparently and responsibly in all TLS activities to build confidence in members and other stakeholders and that this would include improving internal and external audit systems to ensure the correct use of TLS resources and establishing a procedure for providing timely information from time to time to members regarding the activities and use of TLS funds.

Nkuba said he will make sure he builds and strengthens relationships with various stakeholders, including the government, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions, establish and maintain cooperation with international legal organizations for the benefit of TLS members as well as collaborating with universities and institutions of higher education in providing legal education and practical training.

Concerning promoting leadership and participation, he said he will ensure that TLS members participate fully in the decisions and leadership of the association adding that this will include establishing systems for the involvement of members in important decisions and providing opportunities for all members, especially women and youth, to participate in leadership positions.

He said with that policy and perspective, he believes he will be able to improve TLS and make it a strong and influential party in the legal sector in Tanzania.
