RESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has instructed the newly appointed Arusha Regional Commissioner, Paul Makonda, to replicate the success achieved in Dar es Salaam during his tenure in his new role.

She gave these instructions during a swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed officials, including Makonda, that took place at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Thursday. She acknowledged the commendable work done by the former Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner in the region.

"I know you previously served as the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner and accomplished significant tasks. Now that we have assigned you to Arusha, you understand what is expected of you there. Go and work; I have great faith in you," she said.

She also urged the new RC to rebrand the tourist region and ensure there is sufficient accommodation for visitors.

"Tourism in the Arusha region has grown significantly, attracting many visitors, but there is a lack of accommodation. Collaborate with the investment sector to ensure we have ample accommodation for our guests."

President Samia, who also serves as Chairperson of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), praised the former CCM Ideology and Publicity Secretary, attributing to him the party's resurgence in prominence in the country.

President Samia stated that before Makonda's appointment as CCM's Ideology and Publicity Secretary, the ruling party was less active compared to its current status.

"Paul, you have done a tremendous job at CCM. You have revitalized the party; it was somewhat inactive, but you have reinvigorated it, and we are now active," President Samia said.

In October 2023, President Samia appointed Paul Makonda to the post, where he served for only five months before his recent appointment as the new Regional Commissioner for Arusha. He has replaced John Mongella, who has been appointed as CCM's Deputy General Secretary (Mainland).
