THE Rural Energy Agency (REA) has embarked on a project to supply electricity to150 villages in Dodoma Region with an estimated cost of 18.5bn/-.

Speaking during contractor introduction here at the weekend, Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule urged the contractor to adhere to the required standards and quality and ensure timely completion to meet client’s expectations.

Derm Group is the firm engaged to execute the project.

Senyamule emphasized that electrifying the villages will stimulate development across the 15 villages in each of the 10 constituencies in the region.

“The initiative which provides electricity access to the villages increases the number of villages served by REA to 1,781. We are optimistic that the remaining 1,111 villages will get access to electricity in the near future,” she said.

Senyamule further said that, thanks to REA’s efforts, Tanzania ranks second in Africa for rural electrification.

Anneth Malingumu, REA central zone project manager, stated that the project is expected to benefit approximately 4,950 households.

She highlighted that the project will prioritize essential social services, including schools, hospitals, local government offices and places of worship, urging residents to protect the infrastructure to prevent additional maintenance costs.

Khadija Mukiza, representative of Derm Group, affirmed the company’s commitment to working efficiently within the 24-month contract period.
