Mtatiro mention qualities of the next TLS president

WHILE the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) General Election is expected to be held tomorrow in Dodoma, advocate Julius Mtatiro has analyzed the six candidates in detail.

The lawyers running in the election include Boniface Mwabukusi, Ibrahim Bendera, Emmanuel Muga, Revocatus Kuuli, Paul Revocatus Kaunda, and Sweetbert Nkuba.

In his statement yesterday, advocate Mtatiro said it is clear that (TLS), currently needs a President who does not come to start his affairs as he wants, but rather the association needs a President who will develop and put emphasis on the important and good things (foundations) laid down by his predecessors,  advocate  Professor Edward Hosea and Harold Sungusia.

He said that the predecessors who have done their duties recently as well as correcting the areas that were not done well, without forgetting to build the capacity to unite the lawyers.

He said TLS is a professional Association that needs an executive, professional, calm President, able to influence all legal stakeholders in the country, with a vision that can be implemented without impatience.

Mtatiro said there is a need for a TLS president who will be able to unite all lawyers, who will become an important link between TLS and the main stakeholder which is the Government, and who will not turn into an "artist and noisemaker", spreading hatred based on activism, diversity of political party affiliation and emotions.

Mtatiro said TLS needs a person with enough vision and wisdom, who help the Bar Association carry out its duties in a calm and productive joint decision-making.

Mtatiro said young lawyers, like the youth cadre all over the world, expect to see rapid changes in the important areas they expect.

"But those lawyers need good advisors and leaders, they need to be built with stability and the ability to see issues in a broad concept that can build them up and make them unique lawyers in the future," he said.

He said that young lawyers have important dreams, they have aspirations to see and they are nurtured and developed to achieve their plans because many young lawyers do not have an office, many are opening law firms that are increasing in size very gradually and many are giving up because the legal sector in Tanzania and the world it has grown a lot, it has increased internal competition and it has its challenges

"Therefore, these challenges should be resolved or the foundations should be laid that will lead to where we are going,  youth who are new in this important profession to be able to manage themselves and stand on their own," he said.

"Ethically also, young lawyers have a responsibility and obligation to learn acceptable values and best practices in the implementation of their legal responsibilities as stated in various laws and ethical principles, including the 2022 Code of Ethics for Lawyers," he said.

He said acceptable behaviors for young lawyers can be found by learning through the good deeds of experienced lawyers who receive them at the offices of law firms and that there they will also be able to learn more work skills, dignity, and professional integrity and avoid various things that are not needed professionally.

He mentioned some of these things as not being used in double dealings, especially for the customers they serve but also being used politically.
