PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday swore in newly appointed ministers and top officials, urging them to honour their oath with dedicated service.
At a colourful ceremony at the Chamwino State House, the president emphasized that the primary mandate of top officials is to serve the people.
In remarks in the direction of the Information, Communication, and Information Technology minister Jerry Silaa, she directed him to ensure that government systems read each other.
This is especially needed for similar sectors and across all government platforms, which ought to be interlinked by late December, she said, hinting that the directive is not new, stressing the strategic importance of linking the ministries in driving national development.
This is also vital in enhancing international collaboration, she said, asking newly appointed ministers to prioritize national interests and improve service delivery.
This will help the country attain its development goals, she said, commending the ministers for their previous achievements, as it is a mark of expected high performance in their new roles.
Earlier, Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango had raised a note of caution on the transient character of cabinet positions and the need to maintain high standards of performance, underlining accountability and dynamism in public service.
He said that the reshuffle reflects a renewed commitment to strengthening governance and the country’s international presence, aiming to advance national interests locally and abroad.
Last week President Samia terminated the appointments of January Makamba as the Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation minister as well as Nape Nnauye, then at Information, Communication and Information Technology, in a minor cabinet adjustment.
Mahmoud Thabit Kombo came in as the new Foreign Affairs portfolio holder while Jerry Silaa moved to Information.
Kombo, a former Zanzibar cabinet minister, was erstwhile serving as Tanzania's ambassador to Italy, while Silaa held the Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development docket.
In the reshuffle, legislator Cosato Chumi was appointed deputy Foreign Affairs minister, replacing Ambassador Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk.
Ex-deputy minister Deogratius Ndejembi took over at the Lands portfolio while ex-deputy minister Ridhiwani Kikwete replaced Ndejembi at the Labour, Employment, Youth and Persons with Disabilities portfolio.
