Mbeya gets 5.6bn/- for water system overhaul

MBEYA Water and Sanitation Authority (Mbeya UWSA) has received 5.6bn/- loan from TIB Development Bank for improvement of water service systems in the city.

Handover of dummy cheque took place at the weekend here during the bank’s stakeholders meeting for Mbeya Region which aimed at discussing the role of the bank in contributing to development in the country, credit opportunities, services it provides and getting feedback from stakeholders to enable it improve its services.

 Mbeya District Commissioner Beno Malisa lauded the bank for working effectively in fulfilling the government's goals to ensure implementation of the third five-year National Development Plan 2021/22 - 2025/26 and National Development Vision 2025.

 Malisa called on Mbeya UWSA to make good use of the loan by improving water service in the fast growing and the largest city in the southern highlands.

 Cynthia Ngoye,  Mbeya UWSA acting chairperson of the board of directors, also thanked TIB Development Bank for the loan and promised that the funds would be utilized to increase productivity and efficiency in implementation of water projects.

 "On behalf of Mbeya Water Authority Board, I promise that we will use the funds for the goals that were set to increase productivity and efficiency in delivery of water services in Mbeya," she said.

 Mbeya UWSA was established in 1998 by Act No. 8 of Water Works Act Cap 272' of 1997 as amended by Act No. 12 of Water and Environmental Sanitation of 2009.
