General David Bugozi Musuguri dies aged 104

THE former Chief of Defence Forces, General David Bugozi Musuguri, died at the age of 104 on October 29, 2024, while receiving treatment at the hospital in Mwanza

General Musuguri, was born on January 4, 1920, in Butiama, Mara Region. He also served in the military from 1942 to 1988 and concluding his leadership as Chief of the Defence Forces from 1980 to 1988.

He began his military career in the King's African Rifles (KR) and Tanganyika Rifles before joining the Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF).

General Musuguri led the Tanzanian forces in the 1978 war against Uganda’s Idi Amin Dada following the invasion of Kyaka in Kagera Region. The battles and wars he participated in include World War II,  Battle of Madagascar, Kagera War, and Battle of Simba Hills.
