VICE President Dr Philip Mpango has urged Tanzanians to invest further in children’s education to help address the deterioration of moral values in the country.

Dr Mpango made the appeal yesterday while addressing residents of Chemba District on the third day of his official visit in Dodoma Region.

He highlighted that for the nation to achieve significant progress, it needs educated citizens.

The VP stressed that every parent and guardian has a responsibility to ensure that children are brought up with good morals through quality education.

Dr Mpango underscored the importance of environmental conservation, calling for an end to the indiscriminate tree cutting, burning of land for agricultural purposes and destruction of water sources.

He warned that environmental degradation leads to severe consequences, including diseases, death of animals and humans, rising temperatures and water scarcity.

Dr Mpango encouraged leaders to supervise tree planting initiatives, particularly with the onset of the rains to ensure that the planted trees thrive.

The leader also outlined the government’s goal of having 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034. He mentioned plans to establish a special fund to provide subsidies and help ordinary citizens transition to gas stoves.

He urged institutions that serve more than 100 people daily to switch to clean cooking energy rather than relying on firewood and charcoal.

Furthermore, Dr Mpango advised residents of Chemba District to participate in forthcoming local government elections while upholding the country’s peace.

Earlier, the Vice President inaugurated Chemba District Council Office building project which cost 4.6bn/-. He encouraged staff to maintain the building to ensure its long-term use.

The new building is expected to improve service delivery for residents of the district.
