DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Dr Dotto Biteko is tomorrow scheduled to be the guest of honour at the fourth conference on participation of Tanzanians in economy and investment.

Beng'i Issa, executive secretary of the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC), disclosed this yesterday in Dares Salaam ahead of the conference, which will bring on board approximately 500 participants from the private sector, public institutions as well as local and foreign investors.

Issa said that the two-day conference takes place every two years.

"We made an assessment on investment performance indicators as well as looked at the challenges and existing opportunities that local investors can tap and set up a national vision to foster social and economic growth," she said.

"As you are all aware, there are several strategic government projects such as Standard Gauge Railway, East African Crude Oil Pipeline, Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project and the ongoing expansion of roads carried out by the Tanzania National Road Agency."

She underscored that the conference will also recognize public institutions and investors who posted excellent performance by giving them awards.

Investors come to Tanzania in big numbers after the government created a business-friendly environment that attracts foreign direct investments.

In 2023 alone, the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) registered investment projects worth a record $5.72 billion.

This is a 424 percent increase from investment commitments worth just $ 1.092 billion recorded in 2020.
