MONDULI District Commissioner Festo Kiswaga has urged pupils at Mswakini Primary School and surrounding communities to leverage beekeeping skills provided by various stakeholders to improve family incomes.

He made the call yesterday here during the inauguration of a new classroom at the school, constructed by a local tour operator for 32m/-.

He appealed to pupils to be serious and keen to utilise the skills and educate their parents, relatives and people in the community on the importance of beekeeping.

“Utilise the beekeeping knowledge to improve your economic situation, especially after primary school and teach your families the same knowledge," he said.

He said that beekeeping is a profitable business and that those who engage in it seriously find it rewarding.

Kiswaga thanked the stakeholders for supporting the government's efforts by constructing the new classroom, which he said will motivate pupils to excel in their studies.

“I urge parents to ensure that their children attend school. The government is investing in schools and stakeholders help create child-friendly infrastructure,” he said.

Mahfuj Munshi, a representative of the company, affirmed its commitment to community welfare around Tarangire National Park, including investing in education.

“Our priority has been to support education. Our company has a policy to allocate a percentage of our annual profits to community development,” he said.

Munshi expressed pride in the success of the beekeeping project which they initiated in collaboration with the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute and has seen significant progress.

Yesaya Meiyan, Mswakini Primary School head teacher, thanked the company for the support both in infrastructure and beekeeping education which benefitted 707 pupils.

He also acknowledged the government’s contribution of 8.8m/- towards the construction of eight new latrines.
