THE Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development is launching a redevelopment plan for the Sinza area in Dar es Salaam, known as the Sinza Redevelopment Plan 2024 - 2044.

This was revealed yesterday during a presentation before the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Land, Natural Resources, and Tourism, which reviewed a report on the Land Planning, Surveying, and Ownership Project.

Presenting the project report to the committee, the Coordinator of the project, Godfrey Machabe, stated that the ministry is preparing a redevelopment plan for older areas in the Dar es Salaam Region.

"The ministry, in collaboration with the Ubungo Municipal Council and other stakeholders, has developed the Sinza Redevelopment Plan 2024 - 2044," said Machabe.

He explained that the redevelopment plan is a comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing areas that have deteriorated, lost value, or their original essence.

According to the project coordinator, the Sinza area was selected for the plan due to various factors such as rapid growth, high-rise buildings, a significant increase in population, and various economic and social activities. There is also a growing demand for social services and infrastructure due to population growth.

The plan aims to include changes in land use, the construction and improvement of infrastructure, as well as upgrading social services and facilities such as transport, clean water, sewage systems, rainwater drainage, electricity, solid waste management, gas systems, energy supply, and communication systems.

Timotheo Mzava, the committee chairman, expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Land Planning, Surveying, and Ownership Project being carried out by the Ministry of Lands in various parts of the country.

"We are satisfied with the implementation of the project, including this plan to redevelop older areas such as Sinza," said Mzava.

Geophrey Pinda, deputy minister for Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development, stated that his ministry is focusing on older urban areas to see how they can be improved to keep pace with the rapid growth in development.

He mentioned that the ministry has revitalized the Land Development Fund (PDRF) to support the implementation of the Land Planning, Surveying, and Ownership Project, adding that this fund will provide financial resources to municipalities to implement these projects.

According to Pinda, a guide has been prepared to coordinate and implement the fund more efficiently.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Land, Natural Resources, and Tourism received and discussed reports from the Ministry of Lands regarding the implementation of the Land Planning, Surveying, and Ownership Project (KKK), the progress made in drafting the Land Policy, and the establishment of the Real Estate Authority.
