To increase the adoption of smartphones, Samsung Electronics East Africa has come together with Watu Simu to launch a campaign dubbed ‘Samsung Kibingwa’ in Tanzania.
The campaign will enable customers in Tanzania to acquire the latest Samsung smartphones from authorized dealers through affordable payment plans. Customers will be required to make a deposit as directed by Watu Simu followed by daily, Weekly or monthly instalments.
Speaking during the launch of the campaign in Dar es Salaam, Samsung Electronics East Africa- Tanzania Country Lead, Manish Jangra, highlighted that this is one of the company's efforts, in collaboration with its different stakeholders, to ensure that Tanzanians can own smartphones at affordable costs.
“The importance of smartphone usage continues to grow over the years and significantly impacts social and economic activities. Customers have moved from using phones as communication devices to essential economic tools. As manufacturers of the high quality electronic devices worldwide for many years, we have a great opportunity to ensure people can access modern devices at affordable prices. Through this campaign, customers will be able to purchase smartphones from authorized Samsung dealers with payment plans starting from as low as 1200 TZS on daily, weekly or monthly payments over a period of 12 months,” explained Mr. Jangra.
According to a Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) report, more Tanzanians are now using smartphones as the numbers of feature phone users continues to decline. The statistics indicate that the usage of smartphones among Tanzanians increased from 15% in December 2021 to 32.59 percent in March 2024.
The ‘A Samsung Kibingwa’ campaign will benefit customers nationwide by creating an opportunity for them to interact with the smartphones as well as understand more about the device financing model and how they can take advantage of it. Samsung Authorized Dealers will also be present on-ground for any customer who will wish to take advantage of the device financing option immediately.
Mr. Jangra added, “For many years, Samsung has been at the forefront of manufacturing and distributing high-quality electronic products in the country and the rest of the East African region. We are proud to be part of the enabler of the transformations happening in Tanzania, where many citizens are shifting from analog to modern devices.
This is a good sign for the entire nation to keep up with the pace of the global digital economy. As Samsung in addition to providing the latest cutting edge technology in our devices, we also offer 24 months’ warranty and one free screen repair under a program we have dubbed “Samsung Care+” this not only speaks into the confidence we have in the quality of devices we are offering but our support to the customer at the end of the day.”
Rumisho Shikonyi, Country Manager for Watu Tanzania, added, “As an asset financing company , we are delighted to be part of this campaign, which will significantly change the lives of Tanzanians.
