Residents of Kigamboni gathered at Geza Ulole on Sunday to indulge in a variety of traditional dishes as part of the 'Coca-Cola Kitaa Food Fest,' a campaign designed to promote local food vendors and celebrate Tanzania’s rich culinary heritage.

The event, which showcased iconic dishes such as pilau, ugali, rice, fish, dagaa (small dried fish), spinach, and grilled meat, provided a platform for community members to support street vendors, locally known as Mama Lishe and Baba Lishe, while enjoying Coca-Cola beverages that perfectly complemented the meals.

Speaking at the event, Ummy Amiry, a prominent Mama Lishe from Kigamboni Ferry, expressed her appreciation for the campaign, noting that fish served with ugali or rice is a favorite dish among both locals and visitors. “Most of our customers, especially tourists, are drawn to our fish dishes, and we always ensure they leave satisfied. We are grateful to Coca-Cola for supporting our businesses and creating this opportunity,” she said.

Elia Julius Kefa, a well-known Baba Lishe, highlighted his experience at the festival, where he served pilau, grilled meat, and roasted bananas. He encouraged more men to engage in cooking, stating, "Many men have great cooking skills, and this event gives us the chance to show that. I hope more men take part in such opportunities."

The 'Coca-Cola Kitaa Food Fest' is part of Coca-Cola’s ongoing effort to support local street vendors while fostering community engagement. The campaign aims to uplift small businesses and encourage the enjoyment of Tanzania’s traditional dishes, paired with the refreshing taste of Coca-Cola.

The event was a vibrant celebration of Kigamboni’s food culture, drawing praise from vendors and participants alike for the boost it gave to local entrepreneurship.
