In a move to strengthen its contribution in skills development, CRDB Bank has partnered with CFA Society East Africa to sponsor CFA Research Challenge Regional Finals – Tanzania.

The global challenge, which aims at equipping and nurturing young investment and finance professionals, recruits participants from across the world, where regional competitions are conducted to get representatives who take part in the grand finale.

Speaking during the challenge held at the Bank’s headquarters recently, CRDB Bank’s Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer, Abdulmajid Nsekela revealed that this year, the bank has been selected as the regional subject company for the 2024/2025 CFA Research Challenge, giving students an opportunity to analyse the bank’s financial performance and CRDB Bank an opportunity  to contribute to the development of young financial minds while showcasing its impact in the financial sector.

“At CRDB Bank, we recognize the importance of investing in young talent. As part of implementing our 5-year strategy, we are committed to supporting the youth by providing platforms that nurture skills, innovation, and career development. Our partnership with CFA reflects this commitment—it is not just about sponsorship but about fostering excellence, integrity, and innovation in the industry,” says Nsekela.

Nsekela also expressed his gratitude to the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA) and Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) for their invaluable contribution to this initiative.

In 2023/2024 season, DSE served as the subject company, laying a strong foundation for this year’s challenge.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that equips university students with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful careers in finance.

Participants engage in rigorous training in financial analysis, valuation, report writing, and professional ethics while analysing a publicly traded company, known as the subject company.

Commenting on this year’s challenge, Lucy Shantiwa, CFA Society Administrator – Tanzania said participating students conduct in-depth research on CRDB Bank, analysing its financials, operations, industry dynamics, and potential risks allowing them to offer professional advice to potential investors.

After a thorough review of the works presented, four teams emerged winners in this season and they include University of Dodoma - Team A from Tanzania, Uganda Management Institute – Team E, Strathmore University Kenya – Team A, and the University of Rwanda – Team B.

“These teams will now advance to the sub-regional stage of the competition. Winners of the sub-regional competitions will proceed to the regional and ultimately, the Global Final, where a single team will be crowned the global champion,” said Lucy.
