THE Dar es Salaam Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) Dr. Toba Nguvila yesterday urged Tanzanians to build a culture of savings from the ongoing development of the nation’s digital finance infrastructure.

Dr. Nguvila made the remarks yesterday during the launch of NMB Bank's latest savings and deposits mobilization campaign dubbed: "Bonge la Mpango", which offers participants a chance to win exciting prizes valued at over 150m/-

He said that the move will enhance their economic capacity, but also promote financial literacy, adding: “It’s crucial for individuals to develop a personal savings culture that enables them to manage their finances effectively. Mastering the habit of saving is essential.”

RAS stated: “People should aim to produce more than they consume to secure their future.”

Dr Nguvila also shared that he has maintained an active account for 21 years, commending the bank as a leading financial institution that supports President Samia Suluhu Hassan's vision of alleviating poverty and empowering traders and entrepreneurs across Tanzania.

“The Bonge la Mpango campaign is a commendable initiative that promotes a savings culture, vital for managing unexpected expenses. When it comes to securely storing your money, NMB Bank should be your choice,” said Dr. Nguvila.

Martin Mbwana, chair of the Kariakoo Traders Association, echoed Dr Nguvila’s sentiments, noting the significant benefits they have received as NMB customers.

Filbert Mponzi, the bank’s chief retail banking officer, explained that the campaign aims to encourage Tanzanians to develop a savings culture, enabling them to establish and run their own businesses.

Through the "Bonge la Mpango" campaign, participants can acquire capital for business ventures and property investments, running for three months and concluding in December, the campaign offers additional benefits for individuals and groups, including traders and farmers.

At the launch, the bank announced that participants will have the opportunity to win various prizes, including cash rewards.

Mponzi outlined that winners will be selected through weekly and monthly draws, culminating in a grand finale raffle where the overall winner will receive a top prize of 100m/- in cash.

“This is not just pocket money; it’s capital for investment in businesses and property,” he emphasized to the attending Kariakoo traders and entrepreneurs. The 12-week competition is open to all Tanzanians.

“Even those who are not current customers can participate by opening an NMB account and depositing at least 100,000/- . Our extensive network includes 239 branches and over 40,000 agents nationwide,” Mponzi stated.

The campaign offers benefits such as enhanced saving opportunities for individuals, while traders and farmers who transact frequently with the bank will have better access to loans.

“The more you deposit, the greater your chances of winning various prizes, including household items like TVs, washing machines, gas cookers, refrigerators, as well as power tillers and three-wheelers,” he noted, stressing that the primary goal of the campaign is to encourage customers to save and increase their deposits.

In weekly draws, there will be 10 winners of 100,000/- each, while another nine will win household items. Additionally, eight cash winners will receive 5m/- each month for two months.

In the grand finale, Mponzi mentioned that aside from the cash prize, six customers will receive power tillers, and 10 will win three-wheelers.
