Lipuli FC eyes Yanga scalp in ASFC semi-finals

LIPULI FC has expressed readiness for Yanga when the two sides meet in this year’s Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) last four stage match at the Samora Memorial Stadium in Iringa today.

Lipuli FC, through the club’s head coach Suleiman Matola, said they are well prepared for the encounter, which he described it as very difficult, but insisted they will come out victorious.

Matola said his team has prepared well to play Yanga in the semi-finals of the cup, maintaining the aim is to reach the finals of the cup as his side are not looking at the status of their opponents in the domestic league.

Azam FC has already qualified for the finals set for Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi on June 2, thanks to squad’s 1-0 victory over Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) FC in the last four stage’s game at the former’s venue Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Friday.

Winners of the ASFC will represent the country in the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup.

And Matola said beating Yanga will be the best way to see his team have realistic chances of representing the country in the CAF tournament.

"In terms of preparation, we are very well prepared and I am sure we will get the good results which we want, all of my players know the importance of winning this game,” he said.

The last time the two teams met in the 2018/19 Mainland Premier League game at the same venue, it was hosts Lipuli who carried the day by beating Yanga 1-0 courtesy of Haruna Mshamte strike.

However, this afternoon match will not be easy as Yanga are also looking forward to reaching the final of the cup.

Yanga head coach Mwinyi Zahera recently said his team are determined to reach the final of the ASFC.

Zahera did not watch that 1-0 defeat match as he was on other assignments.

"Federation Cup games have not been easy to us, but we are ready for Lipuli, it will not be an easy game but we are ready for them as we want to reach the final of this competition,” the coach was quoted after his side had reached the last four after beating Alliance FC in post-match penalties of the last eight stage.

As expected, Yanga will come into the game with a full squad which will include top scorer of the club Heritier Makambo, Ibrahim Ajibu, Feisal Salum and others.
