Zanzibar  holds three people for duplication  of govt documents

THE immigration department in Zanzibar is holding three people for allegedly  duplicating government documents including passports.

Immigration’s assistant commissioner, Kagimbo Hosea mentioned the suspects as Halima Mohmed Hassan, a resident of Mfenesini, Miza Abdallah from Kiembe Samaki and Eric Julius a resident of Fuoni in Zanzibar.

Hosea told journalists yesterday that the suspects were arrested on March 8th this year. He said that, at first, the immigration officers arrested a Comoro national with fake travelling documents and that after interrogation they managed to arrest the three suspects who are illegally engaging with the making of fake passports.

He noted that Eric Julius was also found in illegal possession of various forged travelling documents, which is against the country laws.

The other documents which were found in possession of the suspects includes, 11 fake passports, immigration stamps, Visa application forms, receipts, bank statements, university application forms, Zanzibar residents IDs, different ATM and health insurance identity cards.

He said that police are still investigating the matter so as to arrest all the network of people involving in the making of fake traveling documents. He said the suspects will be taken to court as soon as investigation is completed.

Hosea appealed to Zanzibar residents to cooperate with the immigration and other state organs by tipping police officers whenever suspicious of anyone who might be living in the country illegally.
