The call come at a time when there is public outcry about people who lure members of the public and siphon their money stored in the online mobile phone system.
The observation was made by the Dodoma Regional Commissioner (RC), Binilith Mahenge while officiating at the launch of Vodacom Tanzania Plc’s new zonal office and shop in Dodoma.
Mahenge while acknowledging the company’s efforts in support of the government’s efforts to transfer its operations to the capital city, he said Vodacom has been in the forefront for new innovations but it should focus on improving security for mobile money transactions.
While welcoming the Vodacom delegation to Dodoma the RC said, “Now that the government is executing its promise to relocate to the country’s capital city, there is a need for telecommunication companies to strengthen their services here, so as to simplify the government activities,” he said.
He noted that communication is vital for communities and economic prosperity, and for this Vodacom has become a thoughtful partner for development, praising the coming for opening an office in the region.
The newly launched office is expected to be the headquarters of Vodacom Tanzania Plc in the Central zone servicing customers from Dodoma, Singida and Morogoro.
The new office currently has more than 30 employees and is equipped with a vodashop which will be a one-stop shop with capabilities to accommodate diverse customer needs from SIM card registration, M-Pesa agents, buying and selling Vodacom products.
In addition to that, the shop will enable customers to get services swiftly. Speaking during the launch, Vodacom’s director of business unit Linda Riwa insisted on the importance of communication services in supporting economic development, “We’ve seen the need to strengthen our services here, opening a new office and shop is part of the ways to catalyze economic activities at the region.
She said the company has invested in providing quality services at a convenient price to all Tanzanians and now Dodoma is super as it has rolled out over 50 4G sites with plans to increase even more to accommodate the needs of this capital city. “ I can assure you that Dodoma citizens will now get digital services at ease,” she added.
According to TCRA reports, there are 43 million users of mobile phones in Tanzania and Vodacom has been spearheading the provision of communication services wherever they are. Currently, the company has 100 retail shops and 350 service desks providing services to its customers all over the country.
Linda noted that are plans to add two more shops in Dodoma to reach a total of six, so as to satisfy the thriving and prosperous city of Dodoma.
