Three held over fake dollars

Three persons have been arrested by police here for allegedly being in possession of counterfeit US dollars notes totally valued at 168,135, 010/-

Kagera Regional Police Commander Abdallah Mssika named businessmen Issa Mkaka (25), Nkolanigwa Rashidi (26) and Twaha Bassajjasubi alias Ayub (36) as the suspects.

Mssika said Bassajjasubi, a Ugandan businessman, is also a traditional medicineman at Mpoma on the outskirts of Kampala City.

The suspects were arrested after Tanzanian Mkaka and Radhisi had reported to the police of being conned US $200 by the Ugandan.

They produced two counterfeit US dollars of the same number E 01070244- E 5 worth $100 they claimed they got from the Ugandan, Ayub.

According to Mssika the two were told to bring all counterfeit notes they had received from Ayub.

The fake notes placed in a plastic bag were hidden in Mkaka`s house together with a bottle containing special ink used in the illegal trade.

Both Tanzanians told the police that they had entered into an agreement with the Ugandan to trade in counterfeit dollars.

They said for first time the Ugandan gave them $139,300 in a plastic bag all bearing the same serial number E 01070244 E 5 at Mutukula, bordering Uganda.
