Heads of secondary schools have denounced boycotts and violence at schools and advised dialogue to solve any problems in schools.
They said in a statement released yesterday in Dar es Salaam that they are aware that the problems mainly stemmed from poor food standard, scarcity and lack of teaching aids, but they said these were not sufficient cause to lead to boycotts or violence.
The association of the school heads, known as Tanzania Heads of Secondary School Association (TAHOSSA) urged students to focus more on studies while being patient in seeking answers from school managements whenever things go wrong.
TAHOSSA also appealed to parents, guardians and communities to assist school administrations to improve the quality of education and discipline.
``We condemn any kind of violence in schools and we urge school boards to take necessary steps against those who go against rules and regulations,`` TAHOSSA president Nicolas Buretta said.
Buretta remarked: ``Other sources of school violence are poor working environment, lack of staff motivation and the presence of irresponsible teachers. The list of causes is almost endless!``
Lately there have been cases of violence that cost lives, damage or loss of property and general unrest to school communities.
