The Coast Region`s soccer team, Pwani Heroes fielding premier league players from JKT Ruvu, yesterday ousted Kilimanjaro 7-6 in a Taifa Cup match held at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Coast were the first to visit their opponents` goal aggressively, registering two goals at short intervals.

The first was scored in the 32nd minute through Mwinyi Kazimoto following a penalty that was awarded by referee Judith Gamba after Paul Kulaya of Kilimanjaro fouled Amos Juma inside the box.

The second goal was realised in the 42nd minute through Greyson Haule whose thunderbolt, unleashed 12 metres from the goal, was too hot for the goalie to handle.

Kilimanjaro retaliated in the 45th minute when Yussuf Kahoa opened the score after a goalmouth scramble. The second was scored in the 89th minute through Greyson Okelo.

The two struggled without success to raise the goal margin, and settled for a 2-2 draw, results that took them to a penalty shoot out.

Coast emerged victors by converting five penalty shots against their opponents’ four. Coast scorers were Kazimoto, Kessy Mapande, Amos, Haruna John and Lucas Simon while Yussuf, Ismail Fundi, Fanuel Erasto and Rayson Okelo scored for Kilimanjaro. Paul Kulaya missed the chance.

In other matches held at the same venue, Morogoro beat their neighbours, Dodoma 1-0, a goal escorted home by Monja Liseki in the 40th minute.

Fielding young players with few Simba and Yanga old guards that included Miraji Juma, Deo Lucas and striker Kessy, Temeke `TMK` forced Mbeya out of the tournament after beating them 5-3.

Temeke launched onslaught attacks right from start but did not bear fruit as all the chances were squandered.

Mbeya, using experience, realized the first score in the 53rd minute through a penalty converted by Yona Ndabila after one of the Temeke defenders handled the ball inside the box.

In the 70th minute they registered the second score through Fred Chudu. Temeke`s first score was realised in the 73rd minute through substitute Muddy Pwani who was called in for Ally Mbonde.

Mbeya equalised in the 86th minute. As the last whistle went off the score was 2-2 forcing another penalty shoot out where TMK won by 5-3.
