Pinda sworn-in as PM

The 10th Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mizengo Kayanza Pinda was sworn-in at a colourful brief ceremony held at Chamwino State House in Dodoma yesterday.

The new prime minister whose nomination was endorsed by members of parliament of the ongoing 10th parliamentary session took the oath and pledged diligence in helping President Jakaya Kikwete foster development for wananchi.

``I, Mizengo Kayanza Pinda, solemnly swear to serve the people of Tanzania, adhere to and cherish the constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, Oh help me God,`` said PM Pinda holding the Bible in his right hand.

The well-decorated State House compound saw the arrival of both political and government dignitaries that included Vice president, Ali Mohamed Shein, President of Zanzibar, Amani Abeid Karume, Zanzibar Chief Minister, Shamsi Vuai Nahodha, Chief of Defence Forces CDF, Davis Mwamunyange, IGP Said Mwema, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Samuel Sitta, religious leaders, legislators and other invited guests.

The former prime minister, Edward Lowassa, MP Mondoli arrived at the State House early enough and was welcomed by fellow politicians and finally took his seat close to the House Speaker.

Parents of the Prime Minister Pinda Xaveri Pinda (86), his mother Anabetina Masenga (79), his wife Tunu Pinda and other relatives witnessed the event that drew the attention of the entire nation.

The former PM Edward Lowassa resigned from the post after being implicated in the report by the parliamentary select committee that investi-gated the irregularities in the bidding process that awarded Richmond Development Company, LLC tender in 2006 to supply power to Tanesco.
