The national youth boxing team preparing for the Commonwealth Games meant for under-17 has no training equipment.

The team training at the National Sports Council (NSC) building in Dar es Salaam lack punching bags and skipping ropes among other things.

The boxers also said they did not have sparing partners who would give them proper training.

The team`s coach, Willy Isangula, said he hoped that the problem would not persist when the team would be taken by the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC).

``This is just an off camp training. We hope that we will soon have proper equipment when we start residential camp under TOC,`` Isangula said.

On his part, TOC Secretary-General Filbert Bayi said yesterday that the Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) was responsible for the preparations of the boxers.

``The work of TOC is to make sure that team goes to India where the championship will be staged, nothing more,`` Bayi said.

Boxers are Daud Matumla (51kg), Hafidh Bamtula (48kg) and Seleman Bamtula (60kg).

Tanzania will also send six athletes in the event to be held in India from October 8-18.

Three runners will start residential training camp today at Mabibo Hostel in Dar es Salaam.

Other three will join the trio on September 14 after finishing their school examinations in Singida.
