One-time Dar es Salaam acting police commander Abdallah Zombe yesterday asked the court to order the police to go to the scene along the city`s Sam Nujoma Road and shoot at the wall to prove that the previous holes on the wall were from gunshots.
Zombe stands accused alongside with 12 other former police officers of killing three Mahenge businessmen and their Dar es Salaam taxi driver in 2006.
The wall fencing postal office houses along the road is said to be the scene where Zombe and his 12 co-accused allegedly gunned down the four men.
Zombe made the request after the High Court yesterday shifted the session briefly to the scenes where the said businessmen were killed at Sam Nujoma, Pande Forest and Bunju in Dar es Salaam.
He told the court that he was a professional as far as the use of firearms was concerned and believed that the holes on the wall were bullet holes.
If the prosecution do not believe that then the court should order the police to go to the scene and shoot at the wall, he said.
``This is a concrete wall. It is not possible for gunshots to penetrate it. But if you don’t believe me, call the police and order them to shoot so that we can prove whether the holes were caused by gunshots,`` pleaded Zombe.
The trip started at the High Court around 10:30am, with the team heading for Sinza C - where the businessmen were arrested before being killed.
At Sinza, 30th prosecution witness (now Tabora Regional Police Commander) Edson Mmari gave his account of the incident, led by state attorney Alexander Mzikila.
Mzikila: Do you know this place?
Witness: Yes, it is Sinza the residential home of Alex Ngonyani and Benadetha Lyimo, the first and second prosecution witnesses, respectively.
Mzikila: What is the aim of visiting this place?
Witness: To get an explanation from Benadetha on whether the businessmen killed brought some money to her.
Mzikila: Where was the businessmen’s car parked?
Witness: It was parked opposite this house.
Mzikila: Where did the police park their car?
Witness: In front of the businessmen`s car. Police from the University of Dar es Salaam also had their own car, which was driven by Nyangerela, one of the accused.
Thereafter the court activities moved to Sam Nujoma Road.
Mzikila: Do you know this place?
Witness: This is the place where we were told that bandits stole some money belonging to Bidco Company.
