African Union Chairperson President Jakaya Kikwete left for Lusaka yesterday to attend the funeral of Zambian President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, who died in Paris last month and is expected to be buried today.
A State House statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday said President Kikwete is accompanied by First Lady Salma Kikwete and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation minister Bernard Membe.
The President is due to sign a condolence book and later visit Mwanawasa`s widow, Maureen, at State House in the Zambian capital.
He is also expected to address mourners on behalf of the heads of state of the AU member-states.
