The Education and Vocational Training ministry has increased the number of its zonal offices from eight to eleven, it was learnt yesterday.

A statement issued by the ministry in Dar es Salaam said the move had reduced the size of zones, as now only two instead of three regions would form a zone.

The statement, signed by the ministry`s permanent secretary, Hamisi Dihenga, said the changes were intended to improve efficiency and cut down costs.

With the new system, the PS said, the problem of accessing stokeholders by officials would be greatly reduced.

Under the new arrangement, Eastern zone comprises Morogoro and Coast regions; Southern (Mtwara and Lindi) and Northern (Kilimanjaro and Tanga).

Others are Northwest (Arusha and Manyara); Central (Dodoma and Singida), Western (Tabora and Shinyanga) and Eastern Lake (Mwanza and Mara).

The list also includes Western lake zone (Kigoma and Kagera); Southern Plateau (Iringa and Ruvuma) and Eastern Plateau (Mbeya and Rukwa).
