The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) has said it would soon embark on a training programme for its staff within the country and overseas.
It said the move was aimed at improving the effectiveness of the tourism sector by having a number of staff qualified in foreign languages.
TTB managing director Peter Mwenguo told `The Guardian` in an interview recently that the board had decided to embark on the programme to improve efficiency and level of professionalism.
He explained that the industry was in urgent need of experts capable of meeting the requirements of tourists, especially those coming from overseas.
``As TTB, we need to train our staff because once you arm them with different languages, it becomes easy for them to communicate with foreign tourists and persuade them to visit various attractions,`` he said.
``It also becomes easier for for them to apply the skills in promoting Tanzania as a tourist destination where people from different countries could visit and enjoy,`` he said.
He noted that once the tourists come to Tanzania, they were more interested in knowing the person, who could give them more details of what the country has or can offer.
Meanwhile, the director of Tourism Division in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Maria Mmari, has called upon the board to promote the country`s tourist attractions around the globe.
She attributed the increase in number of tourist arrivals in the country to efforts being made by TTB workers and other stakeholders engaged in the tourism industry.
