At least three pupils died in the Indian Ocean while 78 people were nabbed at the weekend in separate incidents, police said in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

In the first incident, police found three boys believed to have drowned while swimming at Coco Beach in Kinondoni Municipality.

Briefing journalists in Dar es Salaam, the Special Zone Commander, Suleiman Kova, said the incident took place on Sunday.

He identified the three boys believed to be pupils at Mwananyamala Primary School as Edga Sostenes (16), Mgeni Mzee (13) and Ibrahim Hussein (13).

The bodies of the deceased are preserved at Mwananyamala Municipal Hospital.

In the second incident, police nabbed 78 people from the three districts of Ilala, Temeke and Kinondoni with 139 litres of the illicit brew known as gongo. The accused were all arraigned.

In the third incident police arrested Mussa Rajabu (37) with a saloon car believed to have been stolen by an unidentified person. According to Kova, the car has registration number T639 ATS.
