By Lydia Shekigenda, Muheza, Tanga

President Jakaya Kikwete has urged the public to identify areas for construction of high schools to accommodate students who will be completing ordinary level education in ward secondary schools.

Speaking here on Saturday when opening Muheza High School, Kikwete said earlier plans to build the schools would go a long way to minimising inconveniences which might arise when the students completed their Form Four education.

He said the pace of constructing ordinary level secondary schools in the country was encouraging, urging the people to start directing their efforts to constructing high schools.

``You should start identifying new areas for constructing high schools instead of waiting until the children finish their Form Four studies,`` he said.

``We want at least three-quarters of these students to join advanced level education,`` he added.

Kikwete said the work was difficult but had to be done because one of the prerequisites for national development was an educated society.

He underscored the need for building laboratories to enable students carry out practical studies.

``The nation`s development depends on scientists, and good scientists are those who study both theoretically and practically,`` he said.

``When you speak about health, water, infrastructure, electricity, you are speaking about scientists. These services cannot be provided without them,`` he stressed.
