By Margaret Malisa, PST, Coast

Coast Regional Commissioner Dr Christine Ishengoma has warned that lazy and dishonest public officials would be sacked.

She issued the warning on Wednesday in Kibaha when talking to agricultural experts and other government executives where she said that officials who flouted professional ethics and did not work diligently contributed to the region’s social and economic woes.

``I am now working on a mechanism which will take to task all executives found to be working contrary to their professional ethics. These will be sacked immediately as they are responsible for social and economic problems our region is facing,`` she said.

Elaborating, she said she would not hesitate to sack lazy officials as such moves would sound a warning to other employees on the need to work professionally and diligently.

``It is unfortunate that our region has always been branded as having lazy people and workers,`` she said, calling on agricultural extension officers to spend their time disseminating expertise to the peasants on modern agriculture instead of confining themselves to their offices.

The regional boss also directed that the officials reside in their respective workstations where they would be able to monitor the progress of the projects.
