A member of the National Executive Committee for the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi, Nape Nnauye, who is vying for the post of chairmanship in the party`s youth wing (UVCCM), has refuted claims that he has taken the issue of the disputed Vijana plot as his agenda for the race.
The UVCCM aspirant made the clarification in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
Nnauye (pictured), who is also UVCCM ideology department`s deputy secretary, was quoted by the press on Wednesday as saying that some of the projects run by the party’s youth wing had stalled due to failure which occurred under the incumbent leadership.
Nnauye was quoted to have asked members of the UVCCM board of trustees, including former PM Edward Lowassa, to resign.
Speaking to The Guardian yesterday, Nnauye said whoever perceived the land issue as his agenda had misunderstood him, saying the matter was raised by reporters who needed clarification when he had gone to pick up nomination forms.
``It is not my agenda. I already explained my agenda on matters of economy, community and politics. I did not go there to speak for the project. That issue came up because I happened to know abut it and felt the need to respond,`` he said.
On Wednesday CCM Secretary General Yusuph Makamba was quoted by the media as saying that UVCCM board of trustees would not resign because the council had fulfilled its obligations and had even gone overboard by presenting the plot issue to the party organs to ensure that it was done properly.
Yesterday Nnauye said he held great respect for Yusuph Makamba, adding he felt no need to exchange words with him in the newspapers.
``I respect Mzee Makamba very much because he is my elder, father, and boss and would not like to clash with him in the media,`` he said.
He, however, said his stance remained the same that the project did not follow proper procedures.
``I personally talked to Makamba and have spoken in various committee meetings and this remains my stance. There is no signed contract in regard to the project. My question is: why should investors send their equipments to the site? Where did they get that confidence?`` queried Nnauye.
