National Museum of Tanzania gets six-man advisory committee

Natural Resources and Tourism ministry has formed a six-man advisory committee to promote interests of the National Museum of Tanzania.

The committee`s chairman, Sayed Abdul Hai, (65), said in a statement on Sunday that Acting Director General in the Ministry, Jackson Kihiyo, recently officially installed the advisory committee; and briefed the members on the salient features and terms of reference of their duties.

The statement said the new advisory committee chairman who was elected by other members unanimously, is a practicing journalist and currently Secretary of Lions Club International for Tanzania and Uganda.

The Secretary of the committee is the Director of National Museum, Dr. Paul Msemwa, said the statement.

Other members of the committee comprise experts in corporate matters, tour and travel occupations, artists and teaching professional.

The main functions of the committee include advising the National Museum on its effective programme managements, to act as a channel of information and ideas from the civil society, effective management and running of the `House of Culture` which is a joint project of the Government of Tanzania and that of Sweden.

During installation of the new committee, Kihiyo challenged members to put in place a mechanism to attract local population and foreign visitors to the National Museum and Village Museum.
