The Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) has dropped Emilian Patrick from the Olympic Games team.
TOC Secretary-General Filbert Bayi said yesterday that the boxer was dropped in the team in a joint meeting which attracted government officials and disciplines which had their athletes in the Games team.
``We have decided to drop him in the team because he has not trained since he was arrested in Mauritius,`` Bayi said.
Patrick, the only boxer who had qualified for China games, was among the six members of the Tanzanian delegation who were last month arrested in Port Louis on charges of importing four kg of heroine in the form of pellets.
Others who were arrested are Petro Charles Mtagwa (boxer), Nassoro Michael Irrenge (coach), Case Ramadhan Fills (manager), Ally Rajabu Msengwa (phycician) and Nathanael Elia Charles.
Tanzania has never sent a boxing team in the Olympics for the last 10 years.
Tanzania will now send two teams, athletics and swimming, in the games to be held in Beijing, China in August.
Some of the runners who have qualified are Samson Ramadhani, Fabian Joseph, Getuli Bayo, Mohamed Msenduki and Dickson Marwa.
