Dar man arraigned over impersonating police officer

A Resident of Mtoni Kijichi in Dar es Salaam Region, Peter Sabato (26), yesterday appeared before Resident Magistrate Afumwisye Kibona at Ilala District Court charged with three counts one being impersonating a public officer in the train.

Assistant Inspector of Police Hamis Mhyella, alleged that the accused committed the offence on June 4, this year in a passenger train between Tabora and Isaka Railway Stations.

It was alleged that on the material day, the accused falsely presented himself as a police officer performing related duties; the fact which he knew to be untrue.

in the second count, it was alleged that at an unknown date and place, the accused with intent to defraud or deceive, did forge a police movement order No. 142048 purporting to be issued by Officer Commanding District Central Police Dar es Salaam for officer No. F.3451 D/C Peter, the fact which he knew to be false.

In the third count, the accused was charged with being in possession of papers or `implements` for forgery.

It was alleged that on June 23, this year at Dar es Salaam Railway Police Station, within Ilala District, the accused was found in possession of four photocopies of police movement orders No. 142048, one police identity card and one forged official stamp, the papers he used for forgery.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody for lack of surety as the case comes up for another mention on July 10, this year.
