French minister of state for Cooperation and Francophone Alain Joyandet arrives today for an official visit.

While in Tanzania, he is scheduled to sign a 1.5m Euros agreement (equivalent to 2.83bn/-) with the government of Tanzania.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the French embassy in Dar es Salaam, Joyandet will spend two days in the country today and tomorrow.

Shortly after arriving this evening, he will meet the French community in Tanzania. The French minister will meet President Jakaya Kikwete tomorrow.

``As France prepares to take up the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and with Tanzania holding the Chairmanship of the African Union, the minister will not only broach topics of bilateral interest during his audience with the Tanzanian Head of State, but also wider regional questions which currently occupy the Chairman of the African Union,`` the statement said.

On the same day, the minister will sign with Prof. Jumanne Maghembe, the Minister for Education and Vocational Training, a financial agreement of 1.5 million Euros for a project supporting French language instruction in Tanzania.

The French minister is also scheduled to visit the National College of Tourism, whose construction has been funded by France at a tune of 4.7 million Euros (or about 8.87 billion) from the French Development Agency.
