Ukerewe District now introduces leaders forum to forge solidarity

By George Ramadhan, PST, Mwanza

Newly appointed Ukerewe District Commissioner in Mwanza Region Paul Chiwile has introduced a forum for leaders as a way of forging closer contact among district functionaries and ironing out differences said to be rampant in leadership ranks.

According to DC Chiwile the team would focus on strategies to increase efficiency among district leaders by resolving minor differences or hitches among them.

``I assumed office in this area recently and the first weakness that I noted, which is greatly undermining efficiency in leadership ranks, is the existence of minor frictions.

We are determined to get rid of them and move forward for the benefit of the people,`` Chiwile explained.

Under the arrangement leaders from different departments in the district would hold open meetings to discuss ways to increase efficiency.

It was explained that leaders failed to reach consensus on issues of mutual interest for people\'s development due to some misunderstandings and arguments, even on important development issues.

Interviewed officials in the district, who preferred anonymity, said the DC`s move would remove unnecessary hurdles that for many years had undermined efforts to foster development in the district.

Commenting on allegations that leaders in the area were egocentric, the DC said selfishness was an in-born attribute in all human beings, but warned that it should never be entertained when serving the public.
