New heads for House standing committees

The National Assembly has a new line-up of leaders for its standing committees, three of those picked hailing from the opposition camp.

The closed-door election was conducted at the National Assembly offices in Dar es Salaam yesterday ahead of the House sessions scheduled for next month.

Zitto Kabwe (Kigoma North MP - Chadema) now chairs the Parastatal Accounts Committee, assisted by Estherina Kilasi (Mbarali - CCM), and Dr Willbrod Slaa (Chadema - Karatu) the Local Government Accounts Committee, assisted by Mgana Msindai (Iramba East - CCM).

John Cheyo (Bariadi East - UDP) meanwhile retained his chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee and will be assisted by Zuberi Ali Maulid (Kwamtipura - CCM).

The Energy and Minerals Committee will be chaired by William Shellukindo (Bumbuli - CCM), with Harrison Mwakyembe (Kyela - CCM) as his deputy, while Wilson Masilingi (Muleba South - CCM) will head the International Affairs, Defence and Security Committee, assisted by Mussa Azan Zungu (Ilala - CCM).

Dr Abdallah Kigoda (Handeni - CCM) becomes chairman of the Finance and Economic Affairs Committee, with Hamza Mwenegoha (Morogoro South - CCM) as his deputy, while Anne Kilango Malecela (Same North - CCM) with chair the Parliamentary Privileges, Ethics and Powers Committee, assisted by Abdukarim Shak.

Jenista Mhagama (Peramiho - CCM) will meanwhile head the Social Welfare and Community Development Committee, with Harub Masud as her deputy, as Gideon Cheyo (Ileje - CCM) chairs the Agriculture, Livestock Development and Water Committee, assisted by Kidawa Hamid Salehe (Special Seats - CCM).

Job Ndugai (Kongwa - CCM) was picked chairman of the Lands, Natural Resources and Environment Committee, with Hamis Khatib as his deputy, while the Industries and Trade Committee will be chaired by Abdisalaam Issa Khatib (Makunduchi - CCM), with Mbaruk Mwandoro (Mkinga – CCM) as his deputy.

Chairing the Constitutional, Legal and Public Administration Affairs Committee will be George Lubeleje (Mpwapwa - CCM), assisted by Ramadhani Maneno (Chalinze - CCM), while George Simbachewene (Kibakwe - CCM) will head the Standing Orders Committee, with Gosbert Blandes (Karagwe - CCM) as his deputy.

Mohamed Misanga (Singida South - CCM) was elected Chairman of the Infrastructure Development Committee, assisted by Anne Kilango Malecela (Same North - CCM), while Lediana Mng’ong’o (Special Seats - CCM) will head the HIV/AIDS Committee, with Dr Luka Siyame (Mbozi West) as her deputy.
