The Chama cha Mapinduzi parliamentary candidate for Kiteto Constituency, Benedict Nangoho, has won the election by scooping 21,506 ballots, with his opponent from Chama Cha Maendeleo Na Demokrasia, Victor Kimesera, trailing behind with 12,561 votes.
Announcing the results yesterday, an official of the National Electoral Commission, Festo Kango’mbe, said Mshaka Funfi of SAU got 300 votes and Juma Rashid of PPT Maendeleo 110.
``A total of 74,626 people had registered for voting, but only 34,474 turned up for voting,`` said Kango`mbe.
Kango’mbe said half of those registered had failed to vote due to various problems, some related to the permanent voters’ registration.
CHADEMA has accused the ruling party of rigging.
A CHADEMA leader said their contestant had trailed by 3,000 votes only, and not the figure announced by the National Electoral Commission.
However, NEC chairman Judge Lewis Makame refuted allegations made by Chadema leaders that he had travelled all the way to Kiteto to ensure that CCM won the vote.
