The Opposition camp leader in Parliament, Hamad Rashid Mohamed, has thanked Members of Parliament from the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) for the good willing they have shown in supporting the opposition to fight graft.
Speaking during the Civic United Front (CUF) demonstration in Dar es Salaam to support decisions made the Parliament on the Richmond scandal, Hamad said the saga had revealed anger of citizens, who for a long time, had been unhappy with leaders misappropiating public funds.
``Citizens have woken up and they now know their rights, if we work together regardless of our political parties ideologies, we will do what our people have sent us to do in Parliament,`` said Hamad.
He urged the government to make sure that the money that was stolen through Richmond Development LCC`s controversial contract was returned immediately and other procedures of taking responsible people to court should follow suit.
He explained that it would not make any sense if the thieves of such a huge amount of money would be locked in jail knowing that they would still be rich when they got out.
He added that the nation would not gain anything without having that money returned.
A member of the Paliamentary select committee on Richmond probe from CUF, Muhamed Mnyaa, said one of the duties of the Parliamentarian in the House was to oversee government activities and make sure that national interests were protected.
The report on Richmond saga was presented in the 10th Parliamentary session in Dodoma ealy this month and led to the resignation of the former prime minister Edward Lowassa, two cabinet ministers and eventually, the dissolution of the entire cabinet.
