Journalism Institutions in the country have been urged to introduce studies on patriotism in their curriculla so as to enable journalists get skills that would, among other things, help them fight against corruption.
The Chariperson of the Editors Forum, who is also Managing Editor of `The Sunday Citizen`, Sakina Datoo made the remark on Saturday during the sixth graduation ceremony of the Time School of Journalism (TSJ).
``Sometimes journalists have been called by leaders or sources and asked why they published certain stories they thought did not protect national interests,` she said.
Datoo told the graduates that things have been changing and journalism needed more devotion and commitment, as the poor majority in the country depended on them to inform, educate and entertain.
``We should work hard to see to it that we serve our people well and unearth corruption and corrupt people without fear or being ashamed of them,`` stressed Datoo.
In their joint statement, which was read by their representative, Godfrey Monyo, the students said the information sector was important for development of the Tanzanian society economically and culturally.
They cited problems they faced in the course of their studies, including unaffordable fees, which they said denied many the chance to get the right skills.
