JK advised to form govt of national unity

President Jakaya Kikwete has been advised to form a government of national unity when he announces his new cabinet line-up today.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Chairman of NNCR-Mageuzi James Mbatia said the President must pick from the Members of Parliament those who are honest regardless of their poilitical affiliations.

``We are all Tanzanians; the President should take his actions above party politics because once things go wrong, both of us feel the pains.

Today we are all suffering the consequences of high electricity charges and soaring food prices``, said Mbatia.

He said according to the Union Constitution, a minister must also be a Member of Parliament adding that there are MPs from the opposition camp who are honest and can serve as ministers.

Mbatia said the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) government has proved failure in two years adding that there was a clear indication that to continue with a single party dominating might not augur weel to our country.

``The only solution is to form a government.of national unity,`` he said.

He said that since CCM`s rule been increasingly associated by a widening gap between the poor and the rich.

Meanwhile, Mbatia said the President should order all those implicated in the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) scandal whereby billions of money were swindled through External Payment of Arrears (EPA) account to return them within a specified period.

``Those are taxpayers money, they must be returned for the betterment of our nation. We have so many development issues that have failed due to inadequate funds,`` he said.

He said the President also must ensure that all other controversies within our country are solved including the IPTL contract, the scandal behind the purchase of the President airplane, Buzwagi mining and the Radar scandal.
