The new Prime Minister, Mizengo Pinda, yesterday pledged to closely work with Members of Parliament in what he described as a ``united parliament`` so as to relieve millions of Tanzanians from deepening poverty, coupled with a high cost of living, unemployment and other social-economic problems.
Pinda promised to push for solid unity among the state pillars - executive, judiciary and parliament - for the betterment of the lives of Tanzanians.
``The focus should be to bring better lives to all Tanzanians and safeguard interests our political parties.
We need to be united, especially on matters of national importance,`` he said, adding that he would cooperate and work hand in hand with ministers, MPs in Parliament, as well as meeting the expectations of the President and Tanzanians generally.
``This is the toughest assignment, but I will try as much as possible to move at par with the fast-tracking spirit and determination of the president,`` he added.
He said the country expected much from leaders and legislators, and that it was time ``we, in the leadership, should deliver to their expectations and drive them out of numerous problems.``
Pinda advised the incumbent permanent secretaries and would-be ministers to respect expert advice on technical issues of national interest.
``We have to instill discipline in the public systems…we need to work and correct problems of state organs pointed out in the parliamentary select committee report and others related public institutions. I am sure, if we do this there will be changes in the operations and performance of the government systems,``he said.
Pinda challenged MPs to forget the past and concentrate on the task ahead of serving the nation.
