The ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), yesterday praised the Parliamentary select committee for coming up with reliable and trustworthy results over the questionable award of the emergency power supply contract to Richmond Development Company LLC.

The party also commended the National Assembly for open and unbiased discussion of the report.

``The committee, led by Dr. Harrison Mwakyembe (Kyela, CCM), came up with an analytical report that has given the public a clear picture over the Richmond saga. In fact, CCM accepts the report and insists that all its recommendations will be worked on immediately,`` noted the party statement circulated to the media yesterday.

In the statement, CCM commended Speaker of the National Assembly Samuel Sitta for competently leading the House during discussion of the report that culminated in the resignation of former prime minister Edward Lowassa.

``We commend Edward Lowassa for his bold decision to step down, his spirit of patriotism and political maturity he has demonstrated in the whole affair. This is an historic event that has earned credit for Lowassa himself, the government, Parliament and the party,`` said the statement.

The ruling party also expressed pleasure over decision by President Jakaya Kikwete to accept Lowassa`s resignation and consequently dissolve the cabinet, the decision which the party believes goes a long way in building public confidence to the government.

``CCM will continue to condemn corruption and all people involved in the embezzlement of resources. We will continue supporting Kikwete`s long-term commitment in his war against corruption in government and other public sectors. We also urge government servants to observe code of ethics, and work faithfully for the betterment of Tanzanians,`` said the statement.
