India-Africa partnership conclave for New Delhi

India will host a conclave on India-Africa partnership from March 19 to 21 this year, in its administrative capital, New Delhi, it has been announced.

According to a press statement issued by the Indian High Commission in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the 4th Conclave on India-Africa Project Parnership is expected to boost relations between the Asia`s emerging economic powerhouse and African nations.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), with the support of the government of India, will be organising the conclave.

The statement, said the event will target sectors including agriculture - specifically agroprocessing and construction, touching key subsectors like railways, infrastructure and rolling stock.

Other areas are consultancy, minerals, transport, infrastructure development, including roads, waterways, ports and airports, power and non conventional energy, water and sanitation and housing, low cost housing and community buildings.

The list of key areas also includes pharmaceuticals, healthcare, institutional capacity building, information and communication technology, iron and steel, education and skill development, oil and gas, manufacturing projects, tourism, small and medium scale enterprises, biotechnology and fast-moving consumer goods.

``The Indian-Africa Conclave has emerged as an ideal forum for interacting with potential investors and renowned Indian companies having a special interest in economic and business partnership with Africa,`` read the statement in part.

It added that the third conclave held in October 2006, was attended by over 326 delegates representing 32 African delegations, 4 regional organizations and six banking and financial organisations.

The summit, according to the statement, was ``the largest gathering ever of African business leaders in India where 386 Indian industry members participated.

``Over 300 projects worth USD 17 billion were discussed in over 800 one-to-one meetings,`` said the statement.

The previous CII Conclaves have resulted in projects worth US$ 677 million being executed by the Indian companies, and a large number of the projects have utilised the lines of credit announced for the African region, concluded the statement.
