Welcoming our new PM

We wish to commend the whole process that had led to the resignation of three cabinet ministers, leading to the subsequent dissolution of the cabinet and appointment of a new Prime Minister.

A snap House vote endorsed Mizengo Pinda as the country's new Prime Minister, as MPs from across both sides of the political divide voted for him.

The way the whole scenario that has unfolded since MPs began debating the findings of a House Select Committee has demonstrated the fact that the unity and harmony of Tanzanians is inbuilt, because much as the debate was fiery, it was not chaotic, this being a hallmark of civilization of our MPs and those who were being grilled.

By saying this, we do not intend to water down the substance of the debate on the probe team`s findings, which might continue next week, nor to wash away the serious national issues that are still at stake that are still under discussion and need a once-for-all panacea, what we are simply trying to state is that Tanzania`s pillars of state are slowly evolving to a higher level of performance, in spite of the challenges of the times.

Credit should rightly be given to President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete for allowing a democratic process to proceed to a level whereby big cabinet changes became necessary after shocking revelations had been made concerning a dubious power-generating deal between the national power utility firm and a brief case and lame duck power provider who is still minting billions from state coffers without any justification.

As the President has rightly not intervened in the process of tabling the select team's findings and the ensuing debate, we all hope that the whole course of action will continue to its successful conclusion.

Turning to the President`s choice of the new Prime Minister, it is quite clear that he has made a good choice, and we therefore hasten to congratulate Mizengo Pinda on being nominated for the top job.

His credentials as a committed technocrat who has not been tainted by corruption is a good sign that the country's government operations are now in safe hands, and that the wananchi are set to restore any trust that they were losing on the authorities.

We know that putting a house in good order is no small task, and no one can envy Prime Minister-elect Pinda for the newly acquired job, given the massive challenges that lie ahead of him, and which require public support.

There is every indication that the Prime Minister-elect will receive massive public support in execution of his duties, because all what the wananchi need is a capable, honest and committed leader, qualities which we do not hesitate to state that Pinda possesses.

A new cabinet will be announced on Monday. There are high expectations that President Kikwete will pick a team that supports his vision and which will help the new PM in the execution of his duties.

The people are all out to cooperate with the President and his team, because they expect that the national cake will be divided equitably so that any benefits that accrue will trickle down to the grassroots and not vice versa.
Once again, we wish the new PM all the best.
