The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has increased revenue collection from 1.7tn/- to 1.8tn/- over the last nine months.

The TRA Director General, Harry Kitilya, said this in Dar es Salaam yesterday, specifying the July, last year to March, this year as the period when the increase was experienced.

Kitilya disclosed the authority`s achievements to Parliamentary Finance and Economic Committee that paid a visit to the TRA headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

According to Kitilya, achievements obtained were part of TRA`s nine months plan of revenue collection that targeted to collect about 1.7tn/-.

``We made a nine months target of collecting 1.7tn/-, that is from July 2006 to March this year. Unfortunately, we managed to exceed the targeted amount by collecting 1.8tn/-,`` he said.

For his part, Chairman of the Committee, former Minister and Member of Parliament, Dr Abdallah Kigoda said that, three reasons made them to visit to the tax collecting agency.

He named the first as to see how TRA performs and the hurdles it is facing.

The second is to see if TRA and government were coordinating their managerial functions in revenue collection.

And the third was to advise TRA on how they could improve their performance in the most complained areas.
The Committee also visited TISCAN, TICTS and airport offices.
