Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has allocated 1.5bn/- for finishing the installation of flow meters for imported fuel at the end of this month.
Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, the TPA Director General Efrem Mgawe said already TPA had spent part of the funds to compensate residents affected by the project.
Mgawe also said that the deadline for completion of the project had been changed from July 1st to July 31 this year to enable completion of logistics.
He said the Prime Minister Edward Lowassa had already been informed on the change of deadline and he had okayed it.
Gawe also said that the project on installation of flow meters had three phases, including the construction of a building for installing flow meters, acquisition of flow meters and connection of oil pipelines.
Until July this year, the work has been accomplished for almost 80 percent. The installation work will be completed by July 28 this year, he said.
He further said that the flow meters made by a US company, Brodie Metre LLC, would be imported by the TPA contractor, Liquid Automation System (LAS).
He said LAS had confirmed that the gadgets were already in South Africa for assembling before being imported into the country.
Explaining on the capacity of the flow meters, he said they would monitor the importation of between 40,000 and 60,000 metric tonnes of oil.
