By Pastory Nguvu, Dodoma

The sacking of about thirty staff of National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) recently was in order, the Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Margaret Sitta, said on Thursday in Parliament.

She said NECTA had her blessings in sacking the officials.

The minister was winding up the debate on her ministry’s budget estimates for the year 2006/07.

Replying to questions asked by MPs during the discussions of her budget, she said it was necessary to have a new team at NECTA to improve performance.

Though the old team had experience, it had reached a point where there was a lot of laxity, she said adding the new team, she had no doubt it would catch up.

”NECTA consulted its Board and my office before arriving at the decision, which aimed at improving performance,” she said.

All the sacked staff was paid all dues.
Earlier, Singida MP, Mohamed Missanga (CCM) complained that since the NECTA, Executive Secretary, Dr Joyce Ndalichako assumed duties recently, she had shown she was not interested to work with the old team.

”She just wants to plant her team at NECTA,” he had alleged.
